Google Business Profile Optimization

Get Into the Map Results Where Local Customers Look First

Google Business Profile optimization for local and service-area businesses: set up right, cleaned up and kept active, by someone who knows Google's rules.

When someone nearby searches for what you do, the map results show up before the regular listings. Your Google Business Profile has a lot to do with who gets those spots. Most profiles I see are half finished, out of date or set up in a way Google's rules don't allow.

How Google Picks the Map Results

Google says it ranks local results on three things:

You control this

Relevance

How well your profile matches what someone searched. This is where categories, services and your description matter.

Out of your hands

Distance

How far you are from the person searching. You can't change this one.

You control this

Prominence

How well known and trusted your business is, including your reviews and how consistently your details appear across the web.

Two out of three are in your control. That's the work.

What you get

What I Fix

Access. I help you claim your profile, or get back into one someone else set up years ago.
One profile, not two. Duplicate profiles compete with each other, and both get weaker.
The right categories and services, in the words your customers actually search.
Your address, set up correctly. A storefront shows its address. A business that travels to customers usually shouldn't.
A description, photos and hours that are complete and current, including holidays.
Your name, address and phone number matching everywhere they appear online.
The right website link, pointing to the page that fits best.
A review system that follows Google's rules. More on that below.

Profile Mistakes That Quietly Cost You Customers

Number three is the one that surprises people. It's common SEO advice, and it breaks Google's rules.

Two profiles for one business. It often happens when someone can't get into the old profile and starts a new one. Now they compete, and both get weaker.
Showing a home address when customers never come there. Google's rule is clear: if you serve customers at their location, hide your address and set a service area instead.
Asking customers to mention your city in their review. You can ask for an honest review. You can't tell people what to write.
Only asking your happy customers. Also against the rules. Ask everyone.
Reviews from family. Not allowed, even if they really are customers.
Old details floating around the web. An old address or phone number on directory sites makes Google less sure which information is right.

Reviews

Getting Reviews the Right Way

The safest system is also the simplest: send every customer a short, friendly text after the job, in your own words, with a direct link to leave a review.

No incentives. No telling people what to say. No standing over them while they type. Just a real ask, sent to everyone.

I'll set up your review link, write the message with you and show you how to reply to reviews, good and bad.

Locked out?

Can't Get Into Your Profile?

This is one of the most common problems I see. A web designer, a former employee or a helpful relative set it up years ago, and nobody knows the login.

There's a process for this. You request access through Google, the current owner gets a few days to respond, and if they don't, you can claim it.

The one thing not to do

Don't start a second profile while you're hunting for the first.

That creates the duplicate problem: two profiles competing, both getting weaker.

Options

Two Ways to Work Together

Most businesses start with the Tune-Up. Some want me to keep things running after that. Either way, you'll get a clear quote first.

One time

Profile Tune-Up

I fix everything on the list above in one project, so your profile is complete, correct and following Google's rules.

  • Access, duplicates and address setup sorted out
  • Categories, services, description, photos and hours
  • Your details matched across the web
  • Your review link and review-request message, ready to use
Every month

Ongoing Profile Care

After the Tune-Up, I keep your profile active and accurate, so it keeps working instead of slowly going stale.

  • Regular posts and fresh photos
  • Help replying to new reviews
  • Watching for changes Google or the public make to your profile
  • Holiday hours and seasonal updates handled
  • A short monthly report in plain English

FAQ

Google Business Profile Questions

Don't see yours? Ask me directly. I answer every message myself.

Contact Me
I work from home. Can I still have a profile?

Yes. If customers don't come to you, you set it up as a service-area business with your address hidden.

Do you need my password?

No. You add me as a manager. You stay the owner.

How long until I show up in the map results?

A new profile has to be verified first, which can take a few days or more. After that, changes usually take a few weeks to show their full effect.

Can you remove a bad review?

Only Google can remove reviews, and only ones that break its rules. I'll show you how to flag those, and how to respond to the rest in a way that helps you.

Do I still need a website?

It helps a lot. Your profile links to your site, and Google looks at both. If your site needs work, I can help with that too.

Ready to Show Up on the Map?

Tell me your business name and the area you serve. I'll take a look at your profile and tell you what I'd fix first.
